Altea is in the heart of the
Costa Blanca, backed by the Bèrnia Mountain and
enjoys an excellent microclimate all year long. The old town is really beautiful
with its narrow cobbled streets, shining white houses with balconies and
wonderful views through the narrow streets to the church square and over the
sea.
Altea is a place for relaxing and is the centre for many artists,
artisans and nationalities who find here the affability of a typical
Mediterranean small town which has also many cultural, shopping and sports
facilities that very few small towns can offer.
Altea also enjoys a
charming rural landscape, with many pathways that can be followed by bike or on
foot and, of course, its white pebble beaches. Altea has a total of 6 Km. of
beaches, beginning at the North with the
Mascarat beach and the small
coves that we can find at the feet of the cliffs such as
la Barra
and
la Solsida, continuing with
l’Olla,
Cap Negret,
la Roda or
Cap Blanch.
Altea is a splendid place for
tasting not only the typical rices and fresh fish from the bay, according to the
customs and traditions of our region, but also the
tapas bars, the
pizzerias or nouvelle cuisine and international restaurants.
Altea gives
the opportunity for its residents and visitors to immerse themselves
in a
variety of
fiestas throughout the year, especially in summertime when
fiestas are celebrated almost every weekend. Starting in June with
San
Antonio, in August the outstanding
Castell de l’Olla, internationally
famous fireworks, and finally in September with the major fiestas and the
traditional
Moros i Cristians. Also in summer there is a craft market in
the Church Square worth visiting.
The
Palau de les Arts has
seasonal programmes with a broad repertoire of artistic shows with performances
of renowned artists of significant importance such as Rostropovich or Julio
Iglesias and theatre performances of international standard.
The
many sports that can be practiced in Altea are so extensive that we only will
highlight some
of them: all kinds of sea sports, with various sailing and
windsurf schools, boat renting to enjoy the Mediterranean sea in the widest
sense or for fishing; five diving schools, a tennis club with tennis and paddle
courts, squash clubs, swimming pools, etc. A nice nine-hole golf club and
another eighteen- hole golf club in project. A sporting port, one of the best in
the Mediterranean and the port of Altea with the nautical club, both with over
five hundred moorings make up the nautical station
Bahía de Altea, which
will have a capacity of over one thousand moorings in each port.
